Every state correctional institution has a Commissary that was created to provide inmates a bank type account for prisoner funds and for buying items not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can send funds to inmate’s accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send inmates funds through the postal service and must send the money to this address and follow the rules written below:

The money must be in a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, during which the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have correct prisoner information provided the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address.
