Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary that was created to provide prisoners a bank account for inmate monies and for buying things not issued by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may deposit funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts by sending it by Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send inmates money through postal mail and will have to send money to the following address and follow the directions given below:

The funds have to be a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold period, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have correct inmate information but only if the envelope has a return address. Cash and checks will not be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send any checks or cash.
