It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold period, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have correct inmate information but only if the envelope has a return address. Cash and checks will not be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send any checks or cash.
