Inmate Money

Every state correctional institution has a Commissary that serves to provide a bank account for prisoner funds and for buying items not provided by the Bureau of Prisons.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can send funds to these Commissary accounts by sending it by Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send inmates funds by way of the postal service and will have to send it to this address and do so in accordance with the steps given below:

The funds must be in the form of a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender money orders that don’t have valid prisoner info if the envelope it was sent it has a return address. Cash and personal checks will not be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send any cash or checks.

The program is designed in a manner in which a participant may successfully complete all program components in a minimum of 180 days. These changes will be effectuated through participation in physical exercise, military drill and ceremony, manual labor, personal development counseling, intensive AODA treatment, individualized education, group interaction addressing rational thinking and responsible behavior and release planning and preparation. The Challenge Incarceration Program is voluntary; however, all program elements are mandatory. The Challenge Incarceration Program also provides an additional alternative to revocation option for Probation and Parole
