Inmate Money

Every state correctional institution has a Commissary which was created to provide prisoners a bank-like account for prisoner funds and for buying items not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit funds to prisoner’s Commissary accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates funds by way of postal mail and will have to send it to the address below and follow the policies written below:

The deposit has to be in the form of a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold period, during which the prisoner will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender any funds that don’t have appropriate inmate information but only if the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Cash and checks cannot be accepted so do not send cash or checks.
