Inmate Money

Each state correctional institution has a Commissary that was created to provide inmates a bank-like account for inmate money and for purchasing things not issued to inmates by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can send funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send inmates money in the postal service and will have to send those funds to the address below and follow the rules given below:

The funds must be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold period, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender money orders that do not have correct inmate info if the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Checks and cash will not be accepted for deposit so don’t send cash or checks.
