It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold, and during this period the prisoner will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back money orders that don’t have valid inmate info if the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be deposited so don’t send checks or cash.
