Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary which was started to provide inmates a bank account for inmate money and for buying items not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can deposit money to inmate’s Commissary accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates funds through postal mail and will have to send it to the address below and follow the steps provided below:

The money must be in a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, and during this period the inmate will not have access to the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that don’t have valid prisoner information provided the envelope has a return address. Cash and checks won’t be accepted so do not send any cash or checks.
