Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary that was created to provide prisoners a bank type account for inmate funds and for buying items not issued to inmates by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can send money into these Commissary accounts using Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners money by way of the postal service and have to send money to this address and follow the directions listed below:

The deposit must be a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have correct prisoner info provided the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Cash and checks cannot be deposited so don’t send cash or checks.
