Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that serves to provide inmates a bank-like account for inmate money and for buying items not issued by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can send money to inmate’s Commissary accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners funds in postal mail and will have to send the money to the following address and do so in accordance with the rules provided below:

The deposit must be a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold, and in this time the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back any funds that don’t have appropriate prisoner information if the envelope has a valid return address. Personal checks and cash won’t be deposited so do not send any cash or checks.
