Inmate Money

Every state correctional institution has a Commissary which was started to provide prisoners a bank account for inmate monies and for buying things not issued regularly by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people may add funds into these Commissary accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send prisoners funds through postal mail and will have to send funds to the following address and do so in accordance with the directions shows below:

The money has to be in the form of a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day holding period, during which the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that don’t have correct prisoner information provided the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Cash and checks will not be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send cash or checks.
