Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that serves to provide a bank type account for prisoner money and for purchasing things not provided by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can deposit money to these accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners money through the mail and must send funds to the following address and do so in accordance with the rules shows below:

The money has to be in the form of a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold period, and during this period the inmate will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have valid prisoner info provided the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address.
