Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary that serves to provide a bank type account for prisoner money and for purchasing things not provided by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources may add money into these Commissary accounts with the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates funds in the postal service and must send funds to the address below and do so in accordance with the steps given below:

The deposit must be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and during this period the prisoner will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that don’t have valid inmate info if the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Cash and personal checks will not be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send cash or checks.
