Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary which serves to provide prisoners a bank type account for prisoner funds and for purchasing things not issued regularly by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may send funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners funds through postal mail and have to send funds to this address and do so in accordance with the rules shows below:

The funds have to be in the form of a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, and during this hold period the prisoner will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that do not have correct prisoner information but only if the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Cash and personal checks cannot be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send any checks or cash.
