Inmate Money

Each state correctional institution has a Commissary which serves to provide an account for inmate monies and for buying items not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources may send funds to inmate’s accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners money in postal mail and have to send money to this address and follow the rules written below:

The deposit has to be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, during which the inmate will not have access to the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will send back money orders that don’t have appropriate prisoner information provided the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash won’t be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send checks or cash.
