Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary which serves to provide prisoners a bank type account for inmate funds and for purchasing things not issued to inmates by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may deposit funds into these Commissary accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners funds by way of postal mail and must send those funds to this address and do so in accordance with the steps listed below:

The money has to be a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold period, in which the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender any funds that do not have valid prisoner information if the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Cash and personal checks can’t be accepted so do not send any cash or checks.
