Inmate Money

Each state correctional institution has a Commissary that was created to provide inmates a bank type account for prisoner money and for buying items not issued to inmates by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can deposit funds to prisoner’s accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates funds in postal mail and will have to send it to this address and follow the rules shows below:

The money has to be in the form of a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that do not have correct prisoner info provided the envelope has a valid return address. Checks and cash will not be deposited so do not send checks or cash.
