Inmate Money

Every state correctional institution has a Commissary that was started to provide prisoners an account for inmate funds and for buying things not issued to inmates by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may add money to inmate’s Commissary accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send inmates money through the postal service and have to send those funds to the following address and do so in accordance with the steps written below:

The money has to be a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold period, during which the prisoner will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that don’t have appropriate inmate info provided the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash won’t be deposited so don’t send checks or cash.
