Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary which was created to provide inmates a bank-like account for prisoner funds and for buying items not issued regularly by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts with Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners money in the postal service and will have to send funds to this address and do so in accordance with the policies listed below:

The deposit must be in a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back any funds that don’t have appropriate inmate info but only if the envelope you sent it in has a valid return address. Checks and cash can’t be accepted so do not send any cash or checks.
