Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary which was created to provide prisoners a bank-like account for inmate funds and for buying items not issued regularly by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can add money into these accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can to send prisoners funds through the mail and must send it to the address below and do so in accordance with the policies listed below:

The funds have to be in the form of a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, and in this time the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that do not have appropriate inmate info provided the envelope has an adequate return address. Cash and personal checks will not be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send any cash or checks.
