Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary that was created to provide inmates a bank type account for prisoner money and for buying items not issued to inmates by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may deposit funds to prisoner’s Commissary accounts using the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send inmates money in the postal service and must send those funds to the address below and follow the policies written below:

The deposit must be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, during which the inmate will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will send back funds that don’t have appropriate prisoner information but only if the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.
