Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that was created to provide prisoners a bank account for prisoner funds and for buying items not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can deposit money to prisoner’s accounts using Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates money through postal mail and will have to send money to the address below and follow the rules written below:

The funds have to be a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold period, in which the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender money orders that don’t have correct inmate info if the envelope has a valid return address. Personal checks and cash will not be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send checks or cash.
