Directions

Take I-40 toward Asheville, NC then take I-240 from either direction east or west. Take the Weaverville exit off of I-240 onto the new I-26 west / U.S. 19/23 north. Follow I-26 west / U.S. 19/23 north to the Woodfin / Merrimon Ave. exit and at the bottom of the ramp make a right turn followed by an immediate left turn at the traffic signal. Go 1.3 miles and take a left onto the Old Marshall Highway. Go approximately 1.6 miles to the first stop sign. Go straight at the stop sign crossing Highway 251 which will be the Buncombe / Craggy Access Road. The first facility in approximately .5 miles is Buncombe Correctional Center and the second facility approximately .5 miles further is Craggy correctional Center.

Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary that serves to provide a bank type account for prisoner money and for buying things not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources may add money to prisoner’s Commissary accounts with Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates funds through the mail and will have to send funds to this address and follow the directions shows below:

The deposit must be a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, during which the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have valid prisoner information but only if the envelope has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash won’t be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send any checks or cash.

Victim’s Rights

The Victim Rights Act grants victims the following rights:

Victim Notification

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
