Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary which serves to provide prisoners a bank type account for prisoner money and for buying items not issued to inmates by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can deposit money to inmate’s Commissary accounts using Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates money through the postal service and will have to send money to this address and follow the directions shows below:

The funds have to be in a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold period, during which the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that don’t have appropriate inmate info but only if the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Personal checks and cash will not be accepted for deposit so do not send any checks or cash.
