Inmate Money

Every state correctional institution has a Commissary which was started to provide prisoners a bank type account for inmate funds and for buying things not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may send funds to prisoner’s Commissary accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates money in the mail and have to send funds to the address below and follow the steps written below:

The funds have to be a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, and during this hold period the prisoner will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have correct prisoner information if the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Checks and cash won’t be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.

  1. Summer says:

I find it very interesting that when pulling information up on Google about this particular prison, you find a wealth of information about the cover ups by staff members, as well as the Warden. However, when you come to this actual website, any and all information about the particulars of this prison are incomplete on the home web site. It is not only heart wrenching to have a love one at this prison, it is absolutely inexcusable to be left wondering about the living conditions of this facility!!! WE as tax payers pay for the inmates to be there; Not only do we pay for this, we have to pay to have verbal contact with our love ones; We have to pay to put money into the canteens, the phones at exuberant rates! We also have to pay to have our monies refunded to us, by your proclaimed vendors. You would think that NCDOC could at least complete a website for us! You people should be ashamed of yourselves! This is the reason you do not have a real badge nor gun on the outside! No, you would have been right there where you work, if found guilty. You would have been fired and prosecuted by Civilians for your coverups and the deaths of the inmates in 2012 and 2011. You would have been charged with the inciteful behavior instigating the entire event. Your peers “CITIZENS” of NC would have held you accountable out here in the Civilian world. We have laws out here, the laws that put you no more above the law then those you gaurd. Yes, we have paid dearly with our love ones in your care. We are now being held hostage by your fees and debt that your department passes on to us, the family. It is called double jeopardy, but with all coverups, monopolies will eventually come down and the truth will prevail! Clean your mess up and provide us what WE THE CITIZENS OF NC deserve and have payed for with our taxes (including your jobs)!!

  2. Juanita P. says:

I have a son at Lanesboro Corrections. He’s been there over a year. In that year, he has had numerous complaints about the treatment of inmates, especially those with mental disabilities. They use intimidation, threats, lockdowns at will for no apparent reason, disrespect the inmates with foul language, tell other inmates that another is a snitch. They have no regard for the inmates as human beings, disregard the fact that they have family out here that love them. My son had never been in any trouble, yet he is constantly harassed by corrupt officers who would like nothing better than to crack his head with their sticks. Just two days ago, they took all of his food without telling him why. He keeps asking for his food and he is told they haven’t checked his receipt to make sure it came from the canteen. For no reason, they sent him to the block that house the gang members, and he is not a gang member. Why? They didn’t tell him why. Only that they can move inmates whenever they wanted. They search his room for three days straight, took the same book that he writes in and whatever else they want, without a reason. He is at the end of his rope. The guards need to be investigated. The treatment of the inmates need to be told. The rules of conduct for the staff are totally ignored. One wonders why there is so much stabbings and injured officers at Lanesboro. These MEN, mostly, are going to be in there a long time. Why try to make their lives more difficult through intimidation, incitement, sub-human treatment? Something has to be done. I can assure you, more officers will be hurt, because a person can only take so much ill treatment. A man doesn’t stop being a man because he’s in prison, and the can only take so much harassment. Why the NCDOC let this treatment go on without intervening tells me, regardless of their rules, they are no better than the officers that are committing these atrocities. I have written to Raleigh. My daughter has written twice. We have yet to get a response of action. I have called Lanesboro, talked to Mr. Ingram several times. He is arrogant, disrespectful, to me- a mother. How much less respect does he have for my son? I will send a letter to Raleigh everyday until I get a response. That’s my beloved son. Yes. I will fight for him and all the other inmates.
