You should use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that don’t have valid prisoner information but only if the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send checks or cash.

You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
