Directions

From Raleigh (Crabtree Valley Mall) take Hwy 50 North to Creedmoor. Go through Main Street until you see a RBC Centura Bank on the right and a Southern States on the left. Turn left beside of Southern States. Go through the stop light (Andrews Ford located on right), this is Hwy 56. Keep straight on Hwy 56, go through four stop lights. At the fifth stop light (Texaco Station on left), turn right onto Central Avenue (passing the Post Office, State Employees Credit Union, Butner Fire Department and Police Station) to Westbrook (at water tower). Bare left onto Westbrook and take an immediate right onto Veazey Road. Follow Veazey Road until you see the entrance to Polk Youth Institution located on the left hand side of Veazey Road.
From Durham Take I-85 north of Durham to exit 189 for Butner. This will lead to Central Avenue in Butner. Continue straight on Central Avenue (passing the Post Office, State Employees Credit Union, Butner Fire Department and Police Station) to Westbrook Road (at water tower). Bare left onto Westbrook Road. Take an immediate right on Veazey Road. Follow Veazey Road until you see the entrance to Polk Youth Institution located on the left hand side of Veazey Road.

Every state prison has a Commissary which serves to provide an account for prisoner money and for buying items not issued regularly by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may send funds into these accounts using the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can to send prisoners funds by way of the mail and have to send those funds to the address below and follow the rules shows below:

The deposit must be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold, in which the prisoner will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have appropriate prisoner information but only if the envelope you sent it in has a valid return address. Cash and personal checks won’t be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.

Visitation schedules for inmate’s housed in Regular Population are conducted by appointment only Tuesday 1pm to 3pm Thursday 1pm to 3pm Saturday 9am to 11am
Inmates housed in Administrative Segregation, Disciplinary Segregation, HCON, Protective Custody and Safekeepers visit by appointment only. These will be non-contact visits. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call (919) 575-3070 extension 324. The appointments are scheduled for one hour periods as listed below:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
11:45am to 12:45pm
12:45pm to 1:45pm
1:45pm to 2:45pm

Inmate Visitor Procedures

Victim Notification

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
