Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary that was created to provide inmates a bank type account for prisoner money and for buying items not issued by the Bureau of Prisons.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can send funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send inmates funds through postal mail and must send those funds to the address below and follow the directions shows below:

The funds have to be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold, and during this hold period the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that do not have appropriate inmate information provided the envelope has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be accepted so don’t send any checks or cash.
