Inmate Money

Every state correctional institution has a Commissary which was started to provide inmates an account for inmate money and for buying things not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people may send funds to these Commissary accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates money through the postal service and have to send money to the following address and follow the policies listed below:

The deposit must be in a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, and during this period the prisoner will not have access to the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender money orders that don’t have appropriate prisoner info if the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Cash and checks cannot be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send checks or cash.

  1. Sharon G says:

On 03/07/2016 I went to visit my close friend at the state correctional institution at Dallas located in Pennsylvania, I arrive at the institution at 9am here goes the difficult process just to be able to visit a family or a love one, 1st step give inmate numbers follow by your state id, sign the famous facility visitors book, you are giving a key so that you can put all your belongings that can’t enter the visiting room “sarcastically put your clothes there also cause the best way to go in is naked so that the metal detector won’t go off” getting back to my humiliating day once I put my thing in the locker here I go toward the metal detector ring once, there I go passing again rang another time, boom one more time and it rang another time which I don’t understand cause I wear 1 specific sport bra and make sure I have no bra with underwire, In the state of Pennsylvania if the metal dectector goes off 3x they terminate your visit no it’s or buts, not even if it’s that the metal detector not working correctly, I ask to speak to a higher rank officer and I was threaten with them calling the state police if I didn’t leave the facility like I was some type of criminal and I wasn’t even doing nothing wrong just asking to speak to someone higher then the disrespectful officer they had on duty I was trying to explain how I’m coming from New York 3 1/2 drive just to visit and they terminated my visit with out no one trying to understand all I was told is not they business where I was traveling from and if I have a problem call Central Office. It’s have to be a stop to such cruelty from these officer all we trying to do is visit our family members

  2. Mike C says:

I went for a visit, later told you need a ID card for surgically implanted hardware. When asked where you get this card no one can answer this question? We went up as a family, they expect you to be “used to this type of stuff” but when your not truly familiar I’m sorry it is intimidating. I had to leave the property, while other family members could go inside. They tell you there is concession machines, but you must buy and unwrap, then use a plate to be inspected? You sit in a row line not able to face or truly see you visitation person? I just wonder if anyone else is experiencing theese things, or maybe someone on the prison board should go see what it is like to visit and see how bad it truly is.
