It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold, during which the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have appropriate inmate information but only if the envelope has a valid return address. Cash and checks cannot be accepted so don’t send any checks or cash.
