There are special protocols that you have to follow when sending mail to a state prison inmate. If you don’t follow the procedures then letter or package might not be received.

Each prison has a Commissary that serves to provide a bank-like account for inmate monies and for buying items not issued by the facility.

Anyone may deposit money to inmate’s accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can to send inmates money through the postal service and have to send money to the address below and do so in accordance with the policies written below:

The deposit must be in a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, and during this period the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that don’t have valid prisoner info provided the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.

PROGRAMS
Earned Release Program – The Earned Release Program (ERP) was implemented in March, 2004. The program is a 6-month, abstinence based, and includes structured weekly activity including a minimum of 35 hours of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) related treatment. Each group consists of 10 offenders. There are two 40 bed ERP program units at the center.
Treatment approaches/modalities are Cognitive-Behavioral Approach. Components include communication and social skills training, rational behavior training, AODA education, AODA dependency, AODA relapse prevention, corrective thinking, grief and anger management, stress and relaxation coping techniques, domestic violence education, victim impact, employment readiness, and re-entry initiatives. Support groups are available both on and off site.

A major emphasis of the program is community reintegration with the Division of Community Corrections probation and parole agent involved from the first month of the program, continuing with increasing involvement in release planning which includes aftercare, residence, support services, and employment. Each inmate prepares a release plan that is reviewed by staff. Upon completion of the program, the sentencing court is notified and modifies the sentence to release on extended supervision.

Operating While Impaired Earned Release Program – The ERP-OWI is a six month, closed group program for offenders convicted of operating a vehicle while impaired, under Wisconsin statute 346.63 (1)(a) who also meet the eligibility requirements. Each group consists of 10 offenders. There are three 50-bed program units at the center.

RESOURCES/COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT
During the course of the year, DACC provides numerous hours of training and education on AODA. DACC has provided speakers for various secondary schools, colleges and universities, church groups and other community agencies and groups.

RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
DACC embraces the concepts of Restorative Justice, restoring wholeness to the community impacted by crime, which may include community service. DACC inmates provide community service work for many non-profit community based organizations. Additionally, the inmates serve as speakers at presentations not only about chemical abuse prevention in schools, but also at DOC functions, judges’ workshops and other community organizations.

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
