Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that serves to provide a bank account for prisoner funds and for buying items not provided by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people may deposit funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts with Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners funds through the postal service and will have to send those funds to this address and do so in accordance with the steps provided below:

The funds have to be a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day holding period, and during this period the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have appropriate inmate information but only if the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Cash and checks won’t be deposited so do not send any checks or cash.
