You are advised to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold period, during which the inmate will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that don’t have correct prisoner information but only if the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Personal checks and cash will not be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send cash or checks.
