Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary which was created to provide a bank account for inmate money and for buying things not issued regularly by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people may send funds to prisoner’s accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners funds through postal mail and must send those funds to the address below and do so in accordance with the steps given below:

The deposit has to be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, and during this period the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will send back any funds that do not have correct inmate info provided the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send checks or cash.
