Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary which serves to provide inmates a bank account for inmate funds and for purchasing things not issued regularly by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit funds to these accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners money by way of the mail and will have to send those funds to the following address and do so in accordance with the rules given below:

The deposit must be a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold, and during this hold period the prisoner will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that do not have correct inmate information provided the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Cash and personal checks cannot be accepted for deposit so do not send any checks or cash.
