Inmate Money

Each state correctional institution has a Commissary which serves to provide a bank type account for inmate monies and for buying items not provided by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can add money into these accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners funds through the postal service and will have to send money to the following address and follow the directions shows below:

The funds have to be in the form of a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, in which the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back any funds that don’t have appropriate prisoner info if the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash can’t be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send cash or checks.
