The funds must be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, during which the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have valid inmate information if the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Cash and personal checks will not be deposited so do not send checks or cash.
