It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day holding period, during which the prisoner will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that do not have valid inmate info if the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Cash and personal checks won’t be accepted so don’t send cash or checks.
