The deposit has to be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, and during this hold period the inmate will not have access to the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have valid prisoner information but only if the envelope it was sent it has a return address. Checks and cash won’t be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.
