It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold, during which the inmate will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will send back money orders that do not have correct inmate information but only if the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash will not be deposited so don’t send checks or cash.
