Each state prison has a Commissary which was created to provide a bank type account for inmate funds and for buying items not issued to inmates by the Bureau of Prisons.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may send money to prisoner’s Commissary accounts using the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can to send prisoners funds by way of the mail and will have to send funds to this address and do so in accordance with the steps shows below:

The funds must be in a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold, and during this period the inmate will not get the deposit. Inmates from the Ross Correctional Camp are transported to work on the farm at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility during the week. The inmates have a significant role in planting and cultivating the garden. Over 1 1/2 acre of land is used to grow crops such as sweet potatoes, red potatoes, radishes, green beans, cauliflower, bell peppers, watermelon, carrots, onions, zucchini, lettuce, beets, and corn. The crops are harvested and donated to the local Scioto County Homeless Shelter and food pantries.
