Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary that was created to provide prisoners an account for inmate money and for purchasing things not issued regularly by the Bureau of Prisons.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may add funds to inmate’s accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners funds in the postal service and must send those funds to this address and do so in accordance with the steps listed below:

The deposit has to be in a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold, and during this period the prisoner will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back money orders that do not have correct prisoner information if the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash will not be accepted for deposit so do not send cash or checks.
