Each state correctional institution has a Commissary which serves to provide prisoners a bank type account for prisoner funds and for buying items not issued regularly by the facility.

Family, friends, or other sources can deposit money to prisoner’s Commissary accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners funds through postal mail and have to send money to the following address and follow the policies listed below:

The deposit must be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold period, in which the inmate will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender any funds that do not have correct inmate information provided the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Checks and cash won’t be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send checks or cash.

PROGRAMS
WORK RELEASE – Work release is the primary focus at TCC. Inmates earn the privilege of work release through positive conduct at the center. TCC may have up to 90 inmates employed in work release positions in surrounding communities.
While on work release, inmates pay toward their obligations such as court ordered restitution and fines and child support. Work release also allows inmates an opportunity to save for release for a more successful transition to the community.

GED/HSED – TCC has a half time teacher who provides Adult Basic Education to inmates who do not yet have a high school diploma or equivalent. Inmates have the opportunity to attend classes and take sanctioned tests in order to attain this important credential. Subjects covered are Civics, Employability Skills, Health, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Writing. Inmates who have an educational need are required to attend school in order to be eligible for work release.

ALCOHOLICS ANNONYMOUS (AA) – TCC has several dedicated volunteers who donate their time and talents towards the betterment of inmates who have dependence problems and are serious about changing directions in their lives.

PRE-RELEASE CURRICULUM – This is a Division of Adult Institutions initiative in which inmates are exposed to subjects that will assist them in being successful upon their eventual release into society. Covered curriculum includes: Education, Employment, Family Support, Financial Literacy, Health, Housing, Personal Development, Transitional Preparation, Transportation and Wellness.

GARDEN PROGRAM – TCC has developed a garden initiative over the years that produces a variety of fresh produce used in preparation of inmate meals. Excess produce, which totals thousands of pounds each year, is donated to the Wisconsin Second Harvest Program and the Deerfield Community Center.

SECOND CHANCES – Second Chances is a partnership between TCC and Dane County Humane Society to teach abandoned, stray or surrendered dogs basic socialization skills. For 12 weeks an individual dog is assigned to a team of inmates where he or she will live with them, learn basic commands, be housebroken and experience socialization with a lot of people during their stay. This program transforms the dogs into highly desirable pets that people want to adopt. This program is not all about the dogs though; it also provides a mechanism that allows inmates to give back to society. Inmates also learn valuable life skills that can not be taught in a classroom but, rather, must be learned by experience. TCC inmates help the dogs build or rebuild trust in humans. The final benefit is to the individual or family that ultimately adopts the dogs and adds a new member to their family for years to come.

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
