Bail & Bail Bondsmen – How To Get Out of Jail

Once you’re in jail, your only thought is about how to get out. After you’ve gone through the intake process, bail will be determined either through a preset bail schedule or a magistrate. In cases where no bail is set this may mean that you will either be released on your ‘own recognizance’ until your court date, or you don’t get released while you wait for your court date.

If you do bail out you are required to agree to show up for court, and you must not leave town.

Typically, an inmate in the Crockett County Correctional Facility can earn time off for good behavior if they respect the rules and area a good inmate while incarcerated.

If you follow the rules, you may be granted work release. You will have to return to the jail each day when you’re finished working, or you could be allowed to live in a halfway house when you are not working.

Bail

Your bail is the amount of money that you have to pay to the courts in order to be released from jail until you go to court. The amount you have to pay all depends on what crime you are charged with and how serious it is. You will have to pay 10% of the amount that was determined so you can be released. If you fail to show up for your court date, whoever posted your bail will lose that money.

Find Out How Much Someone’s Bail Is

In order to find out how much someone’s bail is, you have to call the jail. If know the pertinent information, such as name, address and date of birth, they will be able to let you know how much their bail is. Also, you can check their bail amount and status on the Crockett County Correctional Facility site.

How To Bail Someone Out of Jail

Having to get someone out of jail is no fun, but thankfully, it’s easy if you have the money. To start with, you need to find out if their bail is a “Cash Bond Only”. If so, you won’t be able to use the services of a bail bondsman. Cash only – they won’t take a personal check. Once you have paid the bond, the person will be released into your care. If this person doesn’t violate any of the terms of their release, you will get this money back.

Bail Bondsman

If the amount of bail set is large, or you just don’t have the money, you should try a bail bondsman. Bail bondsmen will generally charge a fee of 10 to 15 percent of the total amount of bail set by the magistrate, and in most cases charge a minimum fee of $100. This money is non-refundable and the bondsman only accepts cash. If the bail has been set really high, the bondsman may ask to use your personal assets as collateral for the bond in addition to whatever their charges are.

Jail Policies and Procedures

Intake Procedures / Booking

The jail intake procedure includes each of these steps:

  • You will be placed in a holding cell. If the jail is busy, you will have to wait a while to get processed.
  • First, have to answer some questions, such as what your legal name is, your address, date of birth and an emergency contact person.
  • You will also be asked about your mental and medical history.
  • You will be given an inmate number.
  • Your fingerprints will be taken.
  • You will have your mugshot taken.
  • All personal property will be taken away from you and stored until you are discharged.
  • They will let you use the phone in order to call a member of your family, friend, or bail bondsman.
  • If you think you will get released quickly, they will let you skip the jumpsuit and keep wearing your own clothes, but if you are not expected to make bail quickly you will have to change into a jumpsuit.

Have you been arrested and gone through jail intake? If you have, you should share your experience so others can benefit from your story. How long did you have to wait in the holding cell? How did the guards treat you? Do you have any secrets that will help other people make it through the process?

Discharge Procedures

When you post bail, you will be discharged from jail. Getting discharged takes anywhere between 15 minutes to all day. So, the quicker you post bail, the sooner you will be freed. Also, it depends on whether you’ve been given a bond amount or if the judge still needs to figure out how much your bail will be. For a minor offense, you will simply be booked and then released on your recognizance without having to pay bail. When you get to the end of your sentence and are given a release date, you should plan to get released in the morning.

How To Turn Yourself In

warrant out for your arrest, or if you must start your sentence, it is recommended that you follow the rules and turn yourself in. If it is for a warrant, go down to the jail, and tell the intake officer that you think there is an outstanding warrant for your arrest. They will check their system to see if there are any outstanding local, state or federal arrest warrants out for you, and if there is one, you will be taken into the sheriff’s custody. If you are reporting to serve out your sentence, go down to the jail at the time and date that the sentence order lists. Ensure that you are not late to report. Just bring allowed items when you go to jail, like your driver’s license or state issued ID, prescription medication, and a sentencing order.

Visitation Procedures

In order to have visitors, inmates have to provide each visitor’s name to the jail in advance of any visit. Your visitor’s names will be put in a Visiting log as an Authorized visit. All visitors will be required to provide a photo ID when visiting. Any visitors that gets to visitation or that is not on the visitation list will not be allowed to attend visitation.
Visitation procedures change often, so make sure that you review the jail site before you go to the jail to visit.

Visiting Hours

Phone Calls & Phone Usage Policy

The only phone calls that inmates are allowed to make are collect calls or through a pre-paid phone account. Phone calls made in jail are typically more expensive than regular phone calls. Inmates are able to make phone calls, with restrictions on how often you can use the phone, but you should keep in mind lots of people want to use the phone – so you have to share. If you are under any sort of disciplinary procedure, an inmate’s ability to use the phone might get reduced or eliminated completely.

Phone Number: 731-696-2104

Any mail that you send to an inmate must be mailed using the actual US Postal Service. You can’t use any other method of mail delivery. You have to print the inmate’s name, inmate ID number, and the jail address on the outside of the letter that you send. Do not send anything in a package, envelope with padding or insulation, plastic or paper bag, or an envelope with metal inside. All mail sent to inmates is opened and examined and read by the jail administration, and the mail will be sent back to the person who mailed it if it can’t be delivered.

Life In Jail / What Its Like

    Daily Life

Just the thought of spending time in Crockett County Correctional Facility is something you wish you could avoid, eventually you will get used to the daily routine there. You should expect an alarm for wake-up every morning at 6:00am, and then you’ll have roll call. You will then eat breakfast. When you finish eating breakfast you will work in the work program that you’ve been assigned to. This could be working in the kitchen, laundry, or some sort of manufacturing job. While this may seem tedious, it may help you when you leave jail, as you are gaining experience in a certain field of work. Other inmates go to school, while some take part in mandated treatment programs. After lunch, there will be another roll call, then back to work. Your evening will be spent either in your cell or a common room. During this time dinner is served and you will be expected to take a shower. After another roll call, it’s lights out. Even though you will be confined to your cell, there may be enough light to read or write letters. Then again, most inmates welcome lights out, and try to get as much sleep as they can.

Most people are frightened at the idea of jail because they don’t know what to expect. If you have spent any time in Crockett County Correctional Facility, your experiences would be welcomed, if it can help another person to deal with it.

    Dress Code

When incarcerated, all inmates are expected to wear the Crockett County Correctional Facility uniform. This is normally a jumpsuit or scrubs. Of note to anyone visiting an inmate – you must be properly dressed. Any clothing considered inappropriate will not be permitted.

How To Send Money to an Inmate

You will have your own ‘bank account’ while in jail. This money is used to purchase items from the Commissary. Family and friends can deposit money into this account for you, and any money you earn while in prison will also be deposited into your account. Outside money can be paid in to your account via a money order, cash or check. If someone sends a check or money order, make sure that they write your inmate ID on it. The maximum amount you are allowed in your account is $290 per month.

The rules for sending money to inmates is likely to change, so be sure to check the official website when you send money to an inmate there.

    Commissary

The commissary is the jail store. You can purchase a number of things here, such as toiletries, snacks and writing supplies. Bear in mind that you will probably want to use the commissary daily, and any infractions will get that privilege taken away from you.

    Inmate Medications

If you are on any type of prescription medication, you will be allowed to continue taking it while in jail. When you are first processed, you will be asked what medication you take. You will then be referred to the jail nurse or doctor who will be in charge of monitoring your health and prescribing your medication.

    Meals

You will get three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. As expected, they are very basic, but healthy. A typical breakfast might be cereal, toast, coffee and fruit. Lunch might be spaghetti, salad, bread and milk. Dinner could be chicken casserole, rice, vegetables, dessert and milk. Contrary to popular belief, prison food has greatly improved over the years, and you might find that it’s not much different from what you would eat at home.

    Pods / The Yard

The jail is designed in a ‘pod’ layout, with self-contained housing arranged around an outdoor yard. Each pod has a central control station and a common room, and the inmates take turns in using the yard. The jail is designed this way to keep certain inmates together, and others away from the general population.

    Gangs

As with life in general, gangs are a part of prison life. Obviously it is best to avoid becoming a part of this environment as it will only lead to trouble. When you first enter prison, you might find yourself being ‘primed’ to join a gang, or worse, you might get their attention in a negative way. The best thing to do is keep your head down and don’t get involved.
