Bail & Bail Bondsmen – How To Get Out of Jail
Obviously, once you are locked up, your primary thought is about getting out. After booking, your bail is decided by a special judge called a magistrate. If there is no bail set this might mean that you will either be released, or you are kept in jail until your court date.
If you are released from jail you must agree to go to your court date, and you are not permitted to travel out of the county.
Typically, inmates will earn an early release in exchange for good behavior when they follow the rules and area a good inmate while they’re in jail.
If you prove to be trustworthy, you may be allowed to participate in a work release program. Either you will have to return to the jail each day when you’re finished working, or you could be permitted to move to a halfway house instead of jail, so it is kind of like an early release.
Bail
Bail is how much money that you will be required to pay to get out of jail until your court date. The amount you will be required to pay is determined by how serious your crime is. You will need to post 10 percent of the total set so you are able to bail out of jail. If you fail to show up for your court appearance, whoever posted your bail won’t get the bail money back.
Find Out How Much Someone’s Bail Is
To find out how much bail money you will need to bail someone out of jail will have to call the Sequatchie County Jail. If you’ve got the person’s info, including name, address and date of birth, they’ll let you know what their bail is set at. Also, you can check their bail amount and status on the jail website.
How To Bail Someone Out of Jail
Having to bail a friend or family member out of jail is never fun, but in some cases, its very simple to do. First, find out if their bail is a Cash Only Bond. If it is, you will not be able to use the services of a bondsman. Cash only – they can’t take a check. As soon as you’ve paid the bail bond, the person will be released. If they don’t violate the terms of their bail, you’ll get the bail money back.
Bail Bondsman
If the amount of bail set is large, or you just don’t have the money, you will need to use a bail bondsman. They generally have a fee of 10-15% of the total amount of bail set by the magistrate, and usually have a minimum of $100. The amount you pay to the bondsman is non-refundable and is typically cash only. If their bail has been set particularly high, the bondsman will in most cases use your assets, such as home, property or cars, as collateral in addition to the fee they charge.

- You will answer some simple questions, such as your full legal name, your address, date of birth and contact person.
- Also, you will also be asked about your medical and mental history.
- You will be given an inmate ID number.
- You will get fingerprinted.
- You will get your mugshot taken.
- Any personal property you have will get taken away from you and stored until you are discharged.
- You will then be allowed to use the phone so you can get in touch with family, friends, or bail bondsman.
- If you are expected to be released quickly, you will be allowed to keep wearing your own clothes, otherwise you will have to wear a jail uniform – the jumpsuit.

Discharge Procedures
Once you are able to post bail, you will be allowed to go home after you get discharged. The discharge process will take anywhere from 10 minutes to quite a few hours. In other words the faster bail is posted, the faster you will get released. It also might depend on whether you’ve been given a bond amount or if a judge must figure out the amount of bail to be set. For minor charges, you will get booked and get released without having to post bail. When you have served out your jail sentence and know the discharge date, you should expect to get released in the morning.
How To Turn Yourself In
If there is a, or if you need to begin your sentence in jail, you really should follow the rules and turn yourself in. In the case of an outstanding warrant, report to the jail intake area, and tell the intake officer that believe that there could be a warrant out for your arrest. A record check will be run, and if they verify that there is a warrant for your arrest, they will take you into custody. If it is for a jail sentence, report on the date and time that the sentence order lists. Be very careful that you are not late. Be sure to only bring approved items with you, such as your driver’s license or even state issued ID, any prescription medication you might take, and the official sentencing order.
Visitation Procedures
In order to have visitors, inmates need to provide information about each visitor to the jail in advance of any visit. Your visitor’s information will be put into a Visiting log for the requesting inmate. Every visitor will be required to provide identification. Visitors that gets to visitation or that is not on the visitation list will not be allowed to visit the inmate.
Jail visitation policies can change, so you should double-check the official jail site before you go to visitation.
Visiting Hours
Phone Calls & Phone Usage Policy
Phone calls that inmates are allowed to make from jail are made through a jail approved pre-paid phone account or phone card . Calls made in jail are typically pricier than phone calls made outside of jail. There are certain restrictions about how often you can use the phone, but inmates should keep in mind that you are just one of many people who want to talk to their loved ones. If you are under any sort of disciplinary procedure, your ability to use the phone might get reduced or cut altogether.

Life In Jail / What Its Like
Daily Life
While the prospect of being incarcerated in Sequatchie County Jail is no fun, eventually you will get used to the daily routine there. Inmates get an alarm to wake up at 6:00 AM, and then roll call. You will then have breakfast. When you finish eating breakfast you will have to work in the work program or other activity that you are assigned. This could be working in the kitchen, laundry, or some sort of manufacturing job. While this may seem tedious, it may help you when you leave jail, as you are gaining experience in a certain field of work. Other inmates go to school, while some take part in mandated treatment programs. After lunch, there will be another roll call, then back to work. Your evening will be spent either in your cell or a common room. During this time dinner is served and you will be expected to take a shower. After another roll call, it’s lights out. Even though you will be confined to your cell, there may be enough light to read or write letters. Then again, most inmates welcome lights out, and try to get as much sleep as they can.
Most people are frightened at the idea of jail because they don’t know what to expect. If you have spent any time in Sequatchie County Jail, your experiences would be welcomed, if it can help another person to deal with it.
Dress Code
When incarcerated, all inmates are expected to wear the Sequatchie County Jail uniform. This is normally a jumpsuit or scrubs. Of note to anyone visiting an inmate – you must be properly dressed. Any clothing considered inappropriate will not be permitted.
How To Send Money to an Inmate
You will have your own ‘bank account’ while in jail. This money is used to purchase items from the Commissary. Family and friends can deposit money into this account for you, and any money you earn while in prison will also be deposited into your account. Outside money can be paid in to your account via a money order, cash or check. If someone sends a check or money order, make sure that they write your inmate ID on it. The maximum amount you are allowed in your account is $290 per month.
The procedure to send money to Sequatchie County Jail inmates might change, so be sure to check the official Sequatchie County Jail site before send money to someone in jail there.
Commissary
The commissary is the jail store. You can purchase a number of things here, such as toiletries, snacks and writing supplies. Bear in mind that you will probably want to use the commissary daily, and any infractions will get that privilege taken away from you.
Inmate Medications
If you are on any type of prescription medication, you will be allowed to continue taking it while in jail. When you are first processed, you will be asked what medication you take. You will then be referred to the jail nurse or doctor who will be in charge of monitoring your health and prescribing your medication.
Meals
You will get three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. As expected, they are very basic, but healthy. A typical breakfast might be cereal, toast, coffee and fruit. Lunch might be spaghetti, salad, bread and milk. Dinner could be chicken casserole, rice, vegetables, dessert and milk. Contrary to popular belief, prison food has greatly improved over the years, and you might find that it’s not much different from what you would eat at home.
Pods / The Yard
The jail is designed in a ‘pod’ layout, with self-contained housing arranged around an outdoor yard. Each pod has a central control station and a common room, and the inmates take turns in using the yard. The jail is designed this way to keep certain inmates together, and others away from the general population.
Gangs
As with life in general, gangs are a part of prison life. Obviously it is best to avoid becoming a part of this environment as it will only lead to trouble. When you first enter prison, you might find yourself being ‘primed’ to join a gang, or worse, you might get their attention in a negative way. The best thing to do is keep your head down and don’t get involved.
