Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary that was started to provide prisoners a bank account for inmate funds and for purchasing things not issued to inmates by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may send money to inmate’s Commissary accounts with the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners money in postal mail and must send funds to the address below and follow the rules listed below:

The deposit has to be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold, in which the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will send back funds that don’t have valid inmate info provided the envelope has an adequate return address. Checks and cash cannot be deposited so do not send any checks or cash.
