The funds must be in a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold period, and in this time the inmate will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender any funds that don’t have valid inmate information if the envelope has a valid return address. Cash and checks cannot be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send any cash or checks.
