It is advisable to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, during which the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that do not have appropriate inmate information but only if the envelope it was sent it has a return address. Cash and checks cannot be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send any cash or checks.
