Every state prison has a Commissary which was created to provide a bank type account for prisoner money and for buying things not provided by the Bureau of Prisons.

Friends, family, or other people may deposit money to these Commissary accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can to send prisoners money through the postal service and will have to send funds to this address and follow the rules written below:

The funds have to be in a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold, and during this period the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that do not have appropriate prisoner info if the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash will not be accepted so do not send checks or cash.

Before you visit an inmate at Caswell Correctional Center, be sure that you be aware of this information:

The current statewide visitation policy limits the number of visitors to three (3) per visit. Currently at Caswell visitation is held on both Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and from 1p.m to 3 p.m. The day and time of the visit is determined by the first letter of the inmate’s last name which rotates every 60 days. Visits for inmates housed in segregation and special or administrative non-contact visits are held by appointment only. Appointments for inmates housed in segregation are for one (1) hour, Monday thru Friday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and must be made at least forty-eight (48) hours in advance. Appointments for special visits are made Monday thru Friday and must be made at least twenty four (24) hours in advance. Appointments for administrative non-contact visits are Thursday or Friday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.. from Noon until 2 p.m. or from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. These appointments must be made no later that Tuesday preceding the Friday of the visit. There will be no special or administrative non-contact appointments scheduled on a holiday. To make an appointment or to clarify a visiting day or time, contact the visitation coordinator at (336) 694-4531.

The front entrance guard ensures all visitors sign the prison visitors log when entering the visitation area and upon exiting.

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
