Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that was started to provide a bank-like account for inmate monies and for buying items not provided by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people may deposit funds to these Commissary accounts with Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners money in the mail and have to send it to this address and do so in accordance with the policies listed below:

The deposit must be in the form of a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold period, in which the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that do not have correct inmate info provided the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Checks and cash will not be accepted so do not send checks or cash.
