Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary that was created to provide inmates a bank-like account for prisoner money and for buying items not issued regularly by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit funds into these Commissary accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners funds in the mail and have to send the money to the following address and follow the directions shows below:

The deposit has to be in the form of a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, in which the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that do not have valid inmate information but only if the envelope you sent it in has a valid return address. Cash and checks will not be deposited so don’t send checks or cash.
